A team of 20 runners from Swansea took part in the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 6th October all on behalf of the Paul Popham Fund, Renal Support Wales (PPF) – known as Wally’s Team.
This was the first time a team of runners from the city had taken part in the Cardiff Half for the charity and all 20 of them completed the 13.1 mile run. Some of the entrants were first time runners including Nicola John of Jigsaw Creatives, Lisa Bengyfield of Beautique and Donna May from Crymlyn Primary School.
Swansea company, Premier Cement, sponsored the team to the tune of £1000 which combined with the amount raised by the runners, saw the event raise more than £2,000 for the charity.
The funds will be distributed directly to the projects which the charity is currently supporting including funding 6 I-Pads for Morritson Hospital, Home Dialysis Ward to support patients while they train on how to dialysis at home and also The Welsh Kidney patients Association to support welfare of renal patients.
Wally’s Team will be running again next year in the Cardiff Half and will be inviting novice and experienced local runners to join them.
