We had a total of 35 runners putting their stamina to the test across the 13.1 mile route taking in the sights of Swansea from the city centre and all the way down to Mumbles. We were absolutely bowled over by some peoples commitment to our charity and we absolutely loved having them on board! By the looks of the fundraised money already our runners are set to raise £2000+ for our charity between them all – WELL DONE!
As we were named one of this year’s official charities for the JCP Swansea Half Marathon we set up shop in the Event Village located on Castle Square. Joining us were two nurses from Morriston Renal Unit, Rhian Thomas and Liz Baker. There we were letting people know about the charity, how they can get involved and making them aware of what it is that we fundraise for.
Our merry band of volunteers were in our cheering zone on Norton Green, Mumbles. Armed with a megaphone, whistles, and everything else that can possibly make a noise they worked their magic and kept every runner that passed them motivated and positive. It’s because of our volunteers that we can have such an impact at events, so thank you ever so much to our volunteers!!
After our runners had crossed the finish line, everyone headed over to Coast Italia for an amazing pasta buffet, where everyone indulged themselves on not just one, but five different and very delicious pasta dishes. There, the charity’s founder and chair, Joanne Popham handed out everybody’s certificates as a way of us showing our gratitude for their support to our charity. Two of our runners were lucky enough to win a Prophylactic Session each for being the teams fastest man and woman. This was awarded to Tom Cullimore and Anna Richards – well done guys! From PPF we want to say a huge thank you to Andrew Oram of Three Cliffs Therapies for providing the sessions for our winners and Coast Italia for being so amazing with refuelling our runners.
We also want to say a big thank you to Bookers in Swansea for providing us with Buxton water and Nature Valley cereal bars for our runners and volunteers.
We hope you all enjoyed Swansea Half Marathon as much as we did! Here’s to 2016!!
