Spring Ball in aid of the Refurbishment of the Children’s Kidney Centre

Paul Popham Fund, Renal Support Wales are pleased to announce that our Spring Ball in aid of the Refurbishment of the Children's Kidney Centre

Date : Saturday 12th March, 2022

Venue : The Coal Exchange Hotel, Cardiff

Time: 7pm

Attire: Black Tie

All the proceeds raised on the evening will go towards the refurbishment and take us closer to our £132,000 target. This an opportunity to dine and dance the night away whilst raising money for a fantastic cause.

Host, Guest Speakers and Entertainment Bios

Host  -Sian Lloyd, Journalist and Presenter

Sian Lloyd is a well - known journalist and presenter with more that 25 years experience  in broadcasting. Sian began her career at BBC Wales where she was a reporter and then presenter on BBC Wales Today and Good Evening Wales on Radio Wales. Sian joined the BBC national news team eight years ago, and has had the key roles of both Wales Correspondent and Midlands Correspondent. During this time she has also presented BBC Breakfast, BBC Crimewatch Roadshow and Panorama. Sian grew up in Wrexham and learnt Welsh. She has also featured on a number of programmes on S4C and is now a freelance broadcaster working across a range of projects.

Tracy Baker- Griffiths

Tracy has suffered kidney disease since birth and is a two times kidney transplant recipient. First took place in 1989 but failed after 16 years, this was followed by a second transplant in 2007. Having been a paediatric kidney patient herself she is extremely passionate about supporting children with kidney disease to believe in themselves.

Tracy has competed in both the British and World Transplant Games in a variety of track and field events including throwing and running. At the British Transplant Games Tracy won the gold in the shotput, silver in 100 and 200 metres, and bronze in the 400 metres which was a huge achievement.

Tracy has been recently awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of her work promoting organ donation and transplant sport. The British Empire Medal is granted in recognition of meritorious civil service and in this case Tracy's ongoing work promoting organ donation and her involvement with Transplant sport and associated charities.

Dr Shivaram Hegde

He has been a doctor for 25 years and a Consultant for 15 years. After completing medical school, he did postgraduate paediatric medicine training in Bombay, India. He underwent further postgraduate training in paediatric medicine in UK and later did Nephrology training in UK and Toronto. He is currently based at the Children Kidney Centre, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff where, as clinical lead & consultant paediatric nephrologist, he is part of a team to provide tertiary paediatric nephrology service to children of south, west and mid Wales.

Wyburn and Wayne 

Award winning duo Wyburn and Wayne host a weekly show on Radio Cardiff and they are columnists for Cardiff Life Magazine. They are proud ambassadors for many welsh charities and much of their time spent is raising awareness and funds for these charities. As well as supporting local charities, Wyburn and Wayne are organisers for succesful fundraisers such as RoathRocks Music Festival, The Cardiff Bake Off and the Award winning Dragged to Church are being made into a major hollywood movie and they gave permission for their story to be told. Housemates, Work Mates and Best Mates, Wyburn and  Wayne after eight years together are still bringing the glitterati to every party.


Entertainment and Music


Canton RFC Male Voice Choir

Canton RFC Male Voice Choir was formed in 1993 when a group of former rugby players from Canton RFC.Under the directorship of Monica Roblin who at the time was Head of Music at Fitzalan High School, a choir was formed. There were a small number choristers but gradually numbers increased  over the years and now there are consistently almost 40 active choristers.

The main function of the choir is to raise funds for charity whilst enjoying performing as a choir and give their audiences an enjoyable experience. Over the years it has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a large number of charitable causes.

The choir has a varied repertoire of songs including classical, spiritual, hymns (Welsh and English) pop, and songs from well-known Musicals.

Cerys Rees, Harpist (background music for the event)

Harpist Cerys Rees is currently studying for a Masters in Music Performance, under the tutelage of Caryl Thomas at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD).

After graduating from RWCMD with a First-Class Bachelor of Music with honours, Cerys is the recipient of the Daniel Emlyn Davies Award, and her studies are supported by a Sir Howard Stringer Scholarship.

Cerys enjoys performing with Soprano Nikkila Thomas in community engagement projects and interactive concerts at care homes for people living with dementia and taking workshops into primary schools. Both projects are supported by Wye Valley Music and Cerys is looking forward to piloting the Music Memory Café in 2022.

Cerys’ main passion for the harp lies within contemporary music and thoroughly enjoys working with composers to expand the harp’s repertoire and push the boundaries of what the harp can achieve. Cerys is excited to start working with and incorporating electronics into new music.
